Hook or clip: which vent mount suits your car?

By Costin Bucuci · Updated 14 October 2026 · 4 min read

Both SSUCTION mounts use the same magnetic head: 17 magnets, a 360° swivel, and the same tempered glass face. The only difference is how they hold on to the air vent. Pick the one that matches your vents and it will feel like part of the car. Pick the wrong one and it will droop or rattle, however good the magnet is.

Look at your vent blades first

Sit in the driver's seat and look at the vent you want to use. Two things matter: which way the blades run, and how thick they are.

  • — Horizontal slats with a gap behind them: go for the Hook.
  • — Thin, rounded or vertical blades: go for the Clip.
  • — Round vents: check there is a blade the clip can grip. If you are not sure, send us a photo first.
  • — Not sure, or switching between cars with different vents: the Dual Mount comes with both fixings.

How the Hook Mount holds on

The hook reaches behind a vent slat and pulls the mount against it. You then turn the knob to lock it. Because it pulls from behind rather than squeezing from the front, it is less inclined to slide along the blade. It needs a slat with some space behind it for the hook to sit in.

  • — Size: 60 × 60 × 100 mm
  • — Weight: 63 g
  • — 17 magnets, 360° rotation

How the Clip Mount holds on

The clip squeezes the vent blade from the front, and a second grip rests on the outside of the vent for support. It works on blades the hook cannot get behind, such as thin vertical fins.

  • — Size: 60 × 60 × 79 mm
  • — Weight: 65 g
  • — 17 magnets, 360° rotation

A two-minute test in the car

Slide a finger behind one of the vent slats. If it goes in and there is a firm edge to pull against, the Hook will lock well. If the blade is thin and there is no room behind it, use the Clip. Then check that the spot you have chosen does not cover any buttons, the hazard switch or the screen, and that the phone will not sit in front of the steering wheel.

Adding the wireless charger

Either mount takes the SSUCTION Wireless Charger, a thin magnetic disc (62 × 62 × 6.5 mm) that sits on the mount's head. It has a built-in 1 m USB-C cable and needs a USB-C car adapter of 9V 2A or more, which is not included. You can buy a mount now and add the charger later.

Still unsure? Email info@ssuction.com with a photo of your vents and we will tell you which one to get. If it does not suit your car, you can return it unused within 30 days with a free label.
